DaSilva All Solid Spruce and Primavera Thin Body Tenor Ukulele
This a tenor ukulele from celebrated luthier, Mike DaSilva, who makes a handful of ukuleles each year in his workshop in California. His clients most famously include James Hill. This is a seriously big name in ukulele making circles.
This one is a thin body tenor, with a body depth around two thirds of the depth of a regular tenor ukulele. It is made with a solid Adirondack spruce top paired with solid Primavera back and sides. Primavera is a Central American hardwood also called white mahogany. This one has curly koa binding, a mahogany neck and Indonesian ebony fretboard, with a UV-cured poly gloss finish.
It has a wider 38mm nut width and is fitted with Uke Logic strings, and Gotoh UPT tuners.
It has a lovely tone, deep and throaty, warm and rich and yet with delicate, sweet trebles that make it very articulate. It really sings, chimes and you can really hear the quality. It sounds fantastic. And yet… personally, the soundhole decoration is just a little much for me. Now that shouldn’t matter, I’m not the one who is going to be buying it! You might love it. But for me it’s slightly over the top. So I have listed this significantly lower than it would normally be - for that reason alone. If you research some DaSilva ukulele pricing you’ll see that while it’s still a lot of money, you can pay much much more for one. I do feel a bit bad just because it’s not my personal taste, especially as it sounds so sweet and rich.
What’ll happen is either someone in the know will go, ‘wow, what a great price for a DaSilva’ and snap it up. Or it’ll stick around because I’ve gone overboard with pointing out my personal preferences!
These aren’t supplied with a bag or case, but I have provided a very well padded Kala Transit bag for it, with its thin body the extensive padding of that bag makes it feel well held and secure.
At the bottom of the page you can find various add-ons and options and you can choose a hard case there if you wish. But just to advise that the fit will be slightly loose and it would benefit from a cloth or layer of foam at the bottom of the case to make up for that body’s more shallow depth.
