Enya Nova U Pro Tenor Ukulele - Black
The Nova U Pro tenor ukulele is an innovative model from Enya, with sleek looks, a thin body and a part carbon fibre, part polycarbonate body - making it very strong and stable (who is writing this, Theresa May?!)
This is the acoustic version, and while it’s the black model, the colour is more of a slightly metallic dark grey - certainly very stylish. It’s equipped with D’addario Titanium strings (which are good, but have nothing to do with Titanium), good quality geared tuners, as, with a change form their other Nova U models, good quality, smooth-ended metal frets, as opposed to polycarbonate ones. Those looking for a wider neck will be pleased too, with the nut width, which is a fraction below 38mm.
The sound is about average for a tenor ukulele, which doesn’t sound like praise, until you factor in the materials and the thin body. It chimes very well, with a nice brightness and some pleasant clarity in the tone - certainly, it sounds better than you’d think given that it’s a plastic ukulele, albeit with 40% carbon fibre in the mix for strength.
The package comes with a capo and some spare strings, and a pod case (which offers adequate protection, but as it’s moulded, the zip isn’t as smooth to use as a regular bag, though it works fine!)
These Enya ukes are always available direct from Enya and via Amazon but despite their man-made materials, I’d urge you not to buy from there. The action, for one, is on the high side from the factory - but things like that are taken care of here, included with the price.
