Flight Songbird All Solid Mango Slimline Tenor Electro Ukulele
This is the Flight Songbird tenor ukulele in all solid mango - a variant of the popular (and purple!) maple and mango slimline tenor electro that proved so popular on its release. It seems not everyone wanted a purple one, and mango is very much the ‘wood of the moment’, so it seemed logical than a more natural looking, all solid mango tenor electro ukulele would follow.
The mango used is very pretty and varied - Flight’s factory of choice certainly knows where to get the good stuff. It has a gloss finish, and it’s body depth is roughly half that of a standard tenor ukulele. This makes it feel like and easy to hold and, anatomically speaking, can be easier for the female anatomy too, in terms of comfort. (Perfectly comfortable for me to play too, but then, writing this not too long after Christmas, the excess weight is making me feel a bit… ‘booby!’, so maybe that’s it!).
The Flight Songbird in mango also has a pickup allowing you to use it with an amp. While it can be played through an amp it’s not lacking in acoustic volume either, with a smooth, resonant tone from the mango and some nice ‘pop’ in the trebles from the Worth Brown strings that are fitted.
This Flight ukulele has a 38mm, a little wider than standard, with a satin finish neck, plus an included well padded gig bag. It’s Double C1U pickup, with tone and volume controls tucked inside the soundhole, performs well too.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find various extras, add-ons common to each uke on my website. As this has a thin body, you’ll want to rule out the hard case really. And it has a gig bag, so you can ignore that. The jack socket doubles as a strap button so that’s perhaps covered too, unless you want a second one where the neck joins the body, or indeed, a low G fitting. If you’re going for a low G, my preference would be the smoothwound option, which just seems to suit these.
