Flight Songbird All Solid Maple and Mango Slimline Tenor Electro Ukulele

£529.00

The Flight Songbird is a very pretty slimline tenor uke, with a flamed maple top, stained purple. This allows the impressive grain to show through under the gloss, while the solid mango back and sides contrast nicely. It also has a pickup allowing you to use it with an amp. That said, despite it’s thinner body depth, there’s plenty of acoustic volume too - a surprising amount.

I must be gettting old. I find it hard to keep up with the seemingly endless barrage of new ukulele models, finishes and different colours of the same instrument. You get one in, it does well, then there are fourteen different finishes and of course, somebody always wants the one you don’t have! So, something has to be different, and impressive, to get past that cynical mindset! And, in fairness, I was maybe thinking the same about the Flight Songbird, until I got my hands on it.

The sound is rich and smooth, with a sparkle of brightness that’s evenly matched with chiming shimmer and attractive warmth - something that the thinner body doesn’t detract from. There are a number of reasons why a thinner body can be handy. I suspect for many it’ll simply be the case of ‘I haven’t got a thin body uke in my collection yet’, but there are practical reasons too. People with arm, hand and shoulder issues can benefit from that thinness, not having as far to reach. Plus… and how to I say this… for similar reasons of comfort, the slimline shape can be useful for the female anatomy. I don’t know - I am not sure why I’m beating around the bush, it’s just a body! Women with larger chests can find these very handy. There. I’d reiterate it’s a perfectly nice uke to play for anyone though.

The Songbird from Flight has a 38mm, wider nut, with a satin finish neck, plus an included well padded gig bag and Worth strings. It’s Double C1U pickup, with tone and volume controls tucked inside the soundhole, performs well too.

At the bottom of the page you’ll find various extras, add-ons common to each uke on my website. As this has a thin body, you’ll want to rule out the hard case really. And it has a gig bag, so you can ignore that. The jack socket doubles as a strap button so that’s perhaps covered too, unless you want a second one where the neck joins the body, or indeed, a low G fitting.
