This is a solid top 8-string ukulele, with a nice gloss finish which looks particularly good on the laminate acacia back and sides. There's a handsome slotted headstock and a satin finish neck, for those who find their hands stick a little on gloss necks.

The forerunner of this model was the KA-ATP8-CTG, which was a long running and particularly popular instrument, for its combination of good looks, good sound and decent value too. So, when that was the replaced with the KA-SCAC-T8 I did roll my eyes a little. Why replace a popular model? Well, this one has a little more room at the nut (37.5mm), which is handy with the extra 4 strings. And there's a switch in the binding on the body, for a classy look. The geared tuners are very good too.

This KA-SCAC-T8 has a regular 8 string configuration. There's a low and high G, a regular C paired with a high C, and two identical pairs of E's and A's. This gives a rich, jangly and folky tone, with plenty of volume too. While there's definitely a richness there, the higher Aquila strings do compete well with the bass, making the whole thing sound well balanced.
