KLOS Full Carbon Fibre Tenor Electro Ukulele - Timber Edition
This is the timber version of the full carbon fibre Klos tenor ukulele, with a pickup included in this electro tenor version. These USA made instruments are strong and resistant to things like temperature changes. They’re also very attractive, with this one having their timber finish. What is that? Well… the carbon fibre weave has been enriched with nickel, which creates a more wood-like look, and also delivers a warmer sound than traditional carbon fibre instruments. Why? Well… they don’t really know, and I certainly don’t… but then again, it’s hard to define and explain tonewoods either so this more high-tech variant’s mystery is no different from most woods either!
The Klos tenor uke really is superbly playable, with an excellent tone that’s both warm and yet melodic, with the trebles standing up to the rich bass. And they’re amongst the most playable ukes I’ve ever experienced too - very slick indeed to play. They use a PLEK machine as part of the set up process, ensuring that the frets are level to a microscopic level. This allows them to get the action very low without fret buzz.
This model includes an active pickup with tone and volume controls, and a built in tuner. It has fluorocarbon strings, geared tuners and 35mm nut width. Two strap buttons are included, as is a Klos-branded padded gig bag.
Carbon fibre is superbly strong, but remarkably appropriate for use in a musical instrument. I have already mentioned how nice it sounds, but I can tell you that it took some doing to put it down and write this description! True, it’s quite a lot of money, but it’s an expensive, high tech material, made in the US, and it’s lovely too.
