KLOS Hybrid Deluxe Carbon Fibre 8-String Tenor Electro Ukulele
This is a KLOS Deluxe Hybrid tenor electro 8-string ukulele from Utah in the USA. It’s one one very few higher end 8-strings on the market, and it hits the spot for me in its tight, controlled and full sound. It’s rich and has a folky jangle to its sound, but with a bit more of a mature sound, articulate and interesting. Cheap 8-strings can feel a bit ‘loose’ in terms of sound, full-on jangle. And to be honest, for many players that’s great, it’s fun and it’s enough as part of a collection for occasional use. But if you’re more serious about the 8-string ukulele, this tenor uke is worth considering.
It is made from carbon fibre and composite material, with an attractive appearance with that woven, super-strong material. This 8-string has a hardwood neck and fingerboard, and Graphtech rear-facing tuners that sit neatly on what for me, is a very attractive, sleek looking headstock.
The Klos 8-string uke has a 37mm nut width (at the time I’m writing this, their own site says 35mm, but my tape measure doesn’t lie!). D’addario nyltech strings are fitted, as are two strap buttons as standard. It also has a Fishman Kula pickup fitted, with tone and volume controls and a built-in tuner. Of pickups of this type, the trusted Fishman brand definitely produce the best one, and it sounds good and even when plugged in. There’s a gig bag included as well.
At the bottom of the page, there are some common extras that you can add - like a hard case or a strap.
Just for the uninitiated, this is a standard 8-string in terms of its tuning, with a high and low G in a pair, another pair with a high C and a regular C, then two pairs of E’s and A’s (in unison tuning).
