L.Luthier Le Koa S All Solid Spruce and Formosan Koa Tenor Electro Ukulele
The L.Luthier Le Koa S is a very attractive electro-acoustic tenor ukulele that combines a modern design with excellent, clean build. It features a solid European spruce top paired with solid Formosan koa back and sides. OK, so what’s Formosan koa? It’s a species of acacia, native to Taiwan, rather than actual koa. In fact, it annoys me a bit that the word koa is used as that’s solely from Hawaii. But… because this is called the L.Luthier Le Koa S, I had to say koa instead of acacia to make sense of that. But it’s acacia. Which is fine as that’s good too. (Will get off my high horse now)
The Le Koa S delivers plenty of clarity, projection and responsiveness, with the spruce giving you brightness, tempered with some fullness and warmth from the acacia back and sides. The overall mix is definitely towards brightness and power, making this a good candidate for a low G (although it is supplied high G).
The distinctive L.Luthier styling includes the company's signature side sound port, allowing players to hear themselves more clearly while enhancing the instrument's impressive projection. The Le Koa S has an ebony fingerboard, rosewood bridge, bone nut and saddle, flamed maple binding and quality Der Jung geared tuners. The latter are aged brass effect and look very classy. The satin-finished mahogany neck provides a comfortable playing experience, while the gloss body finish highlights the stunning grain of the acacia in particular.
For amplified performance, the Le Koa S is equipped with L.Luthier's active dual-source pickup system, blending the natural warmth of an internal microphone with the clarity and reliability of an undersaddle pickup. It is supplied with a nicely padded gig bag too.
