Ohana TK-6 All Solid Spruce & Acacia Tenor Ukulele
This model, the Ohana TK-6 tenor ukulele, made its debut at the NAMM show in 2023, ushering a new line of ukuleles that build on Ohana’s solid reputation and push the envelope in terms of quality and tone. That sentence sounds like I lifted it off their website, but no… I should be a copywriter as that sounds very professional! In other words (still my own), these are flipping good.
If you are a ukulele player that craves clarity and volume, the TK-6 is for you. It’s bold, it’s big, it’s zingy, it chimes and it sings! It is LOUD. The tightly grained solid spruce top adds a brightness and clarity to the sound. The solid acacia back and sides offer a little more in the mid and bass end of the sound spectrum. But above all it is loud, with the sound virtually exploding out of the soundbox. If you play in a group and can’t hear yourself, this is a great option. Although you’ll have to make sure you get everything right, as everyone else will hear you! No mistakes in a group scenario with this one as you’ll be found out!
There’s a gloss finish, a really interesting slotted headstock, a nice soundhole decoration and a handy, tidily-done comfort edge. It has a gloss finish too, and is fitted with Worth Brown strings, with Grover tuners. Very delicate orange coloured purfling accompanies the rosewood binding too - not a big detail, but it’s there and it’s really well done.
I am pleased that Ohana have stepped into this ‘mid-range’ territory, and on this evidence it’s a natural home for them as this ukulele doesn’t disappoint!
