'Oli L1-TMGS All Solid Mango Tenor Ukulele - Satin Finish
This ‘Oli L1-TMGS is from a series of of ukuleles created bythe team at Hawaii Music Supply, pouring in their experience and knowldge of the ukulele market to create excellent, modern instruments that are packed with features and finished with real quality. This tenor uke is made from all solid mango, and fitted with a smoothwound low W.
It comes with an excellent bag, and is fitted with Ko’olau Aho strings, which are fluorocarbon. It’s quite early in the listing to be concentrating on the strings, but I love the smooth feel of these! They have enough tension to tease plenty of volume out of the thin solid mango top, as well as packing a punch that marries up nicely with the low G - meaning the balance is good and you’re not finding your melodies lost in that low G depth.
There are lots of modern design features, like the shaped end to the fingerboard, the wide inlaid soundhole rosette and interstingly shaped headstock. There are great practical features like the side soundport, which projects sound to the player, and the superb Gotoh UPT rear-facing geared tuners. There are features that deliver great playability, like the satin neck, 37mm nut width and the radius on the fingerboard. And then there are relatively minor tweaks and touches, like the position markers in maple that wrap around the edge of the fingerboard, which delight me (I’m not sure why, but they just do it for me and I get more excited about it that I probably should!)
There’s warmth in the tone. There’s plenty of volume. There’s good sustain and rich harmonics. There’s sweetness in the trebles that really sings. It’s just one really, really good ukulele. Hats off to the team in Hawaii that thought about all of this and got the factory in Indonesia to follow their instructions so well!
At the bottom of the page you’ll find a series of standard add ons. The bag that it comes with is really good, so I’d stick with that (though there’s a hard case option if you need added protection). And of course, it has a low G already, so you can ignore that one!
