The Uma Classic-ST is a really nice ukulele at a really nice price. If you look at Uma's range, they have some really interesting ukes, including the Pulse series with fan-frets. So, they're no stranger to innovation. But with the Classic-ST they have demonstrated they can make a classic style ukulele too. (Hey, maybe that's how they came up with the name?) This tenor ukulele, with its all solid acacia body and gloss finish, looks like a Hawaiian made ukulele - and I can tell you that it has more resonance than some Hawaiian ukes I've played too.

Acacia ukes can sometimes be a little muted and mellow, but the Classic-ST really sings, with good sustain, a nice chime and a pleasing, sparkling brightness. It has plenty of volume too. It's an excellent example of a lively and expressive ukulele, which performs well when strummed or picked.

The gloss finish is very well done, and that's all to report on the visual front. It's unadorned, unfussy and lets the grain of the acacia do the talking. The Uma Classic-ST has clear fluorocarbon strings and closed geared tuners, which look very smart with their acacia buttons. The bone nut is 38mm wide.

Apart from anything, this price for an all solid acacia ukulele is very impressive. Thankfully the Classic-ST is an instant classic too, so it's not cheap because it's not really good!
