This Uma Moon-ST tenor ukulele is a great example of how some companies are striving to make better and better value options for beginners and intermediate players. The Taiwan based Uma have gone down this route, making great quality ukes that are really affordable - rather than become yet another mass-producing non-entity aiming to push as much rubbish through Amazon's door as possible.

Having descended now from my high horse, let's talk about the Uma Moon-ST. This gloss finish tenor has a solid mahogany top, paired with laminate mahogany back and sides. The top has an attractive maple soundhole rosette and an inlaid maple section on the top. Although it looks like it could be, it isn't a bevelled comfort edge, but rather just a decorative feature - which is nice given that mahogany isn't the most striking of woods.

The uke is really so easy to play, they've got the balance and set up right from the box, so while I am prepared to do any work necessary, there's not likely to be much to do to get this into tip top shape. The Uma Moon-ST ukulele has good quality chrome geared tuners, fluorocarbon strings and a quality grey gig bag.

Although mahogany is a warmer sounding wood, and that comes through in the mix, there's a great balance with the trebles too, which really sparkle. There's plenty of volume and the sustain is impressive too. It's really versatile, which nice rich warmth when played with the bad of your thumb, and a brisk brightness when picked. A bit of something for everyone and really impressive for the money. REALLY impressive (I felt it was worth the capital letters in the end!)
