Uma UK-17STE Solid Mahogany Top Sunburst Electro Tenor Ukulele
This is the electro version of the UK-17STE - which has been retro-fitted with a passive pickup, giving you the option to plug it into an amp for a clean, amplified sound. The jack input also doubles as a strap button. The acoustic sound is the same as the UK-17ST, and that is described below:
This Uma UK-17ST has a great big sound, with lots of projection and volume. Although the warmth from the mahogany comes through in a nice wash of rounded smoothness, initially there's some great punch and sparkle from the fitted light-feeling fluorocarbon strings. It chimes really nicely, with good note separation. With the subtle sunburst finish and nice gloss, it looks the part too.
It's all looking good so far then, with the only thing that seems a mis-step being the price... which is silly! This UK-17ST comes with a great gig bag too - so there's no way something that sounds so good should be such a low price - given there's a solid top too. Silly!
The Uma UK-17ST has some nice rope style inlays accompanying the hardwood binding, and a bit of abalone around the soundhole too.
It looks good, sounds good and could be £100 more an would still be an impressive buy.
