The Uma UK-30STP makes no apologies for for it’s attempt to catch the eye. If magpies were ukulele players, they’d be swooping down for a play on this tenor pineapple ukulele, with all of its shine, sparkle and decoration. There’s a gloss finish, which brings out the lovely grain of the all solid acacia body. There’s rosewood binding, a maple soundhole rosette, abalone purfling and a slotted headstock. It certainly looks pretty and there’s no hiding from the fact that the Uma UK-30STP is far from plain!

The pineapple body shape isn’t just a curiosity, but rather a traditional body shape that gives a little more volume and rounded warmth than the equivalent uke in a standard body size. That’s not to say it’s overly warm and muddy, but rather rich and interesting, with a lovely resonance and harmonics, and some sparkle and brightness from the fluorocarbon strings. It has an ‘acacia sound’, with a relaxed, warm tone.

The Uma UK-30STP has a 38mm nut width, offering a little extra room for your fingers, with a relateively shallow neck profile that doesn’t feel overly chunky. I’ll set these up to play really well, something that’s aided by the light gauge of the Uma strings, which make them feel effortless to play (though sadly, it won’t play itself to Jake Shimabukuro’s standards!)

You can ignore the case options as this Uma uke comes with a nice padded gig bag, a smart grey one. Hard cases won’t fit a pineapple shaped uke, so best to stick wit that.
