This aNueNue U2 really has The Edge. U2… The Edge… oh never mind! Puns aside, it is a very good quality instrument, neatly made, with an excellent tone for the price. Part of their Hawaiian Dream series, the aNueNue U2 concert ukulele takes some of the features of their premium lines - like the larger bottom bout, and puts it into an affordable package. The result is some of the classic aNueNue tone at a serious beginner instrument price.

The U2 concert uke is made from laminate mahogany, but while some laminates are distinctly unlively, this one keeps some of the smoothness from the laminate, adds some depth from the larger body, and some nice pep and zing in the trebles from the fitted aNueNue clear water fluorocarbon strings. The result is that it sounds like a solid mahogany top instrument, to me, rather than a standard generic laminate sound.

This concert ukulele comes with a nice padded gig bag, good quality geared tuners and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. It has a 36mm nut, which will feel comfortable to most players, and it plays nicely too.

Yes, it’s plain. But for the money, the sound is close to unrivalled.
