The aNueNue Green Bird is part of the Taiwense company’s famous Bird Series, but this UC-110 concert ukuele has a twist compared to others in the series. With it’s solid South American mahogany body, satin finish and aNueNue Green Planet fluorocarbon strings, it’s a ukulele that combines the modern vibrancy that the Bird Series is known for, with a dose of vintage charm.

The tone is smooth, rich and warm, as you’d expect from mahogany, but aNueNue’s innovative bracing manages to still push out plenty of sweet trebles too, for a lovely mix of old and new. I personally tend to play modern music, and it works really well with that, with its inviting sweetness… but switch to some old time tunes and the mahogany warmth suits the music really well too.

This satin finish UC-110 is called the Green Bird on account of a green stained section of the maple binding (pictured), delicate green purfling and the strings (which are also green, as is the excellent aNueNue hard case supplied with this concert uke). It is fitted with premium Gotoh UPT rear facing tuners, and has a 36mm nut width. The slightly radiussed frets are super smooth and all in all, it’s a delight to play.

aNueNue have been innovators in the ukulele market, and I like how this instrument servers a specific purpose - or at least offers something different to what they’ve done before. The UC-110 is not just another ukulele that looks slightly different to their others, but a really different beast.
