The Enya EUC-Flower-Sea is so striking that you might be tempted to pop on a pair of sunglasses when you first look at it, as it’s on the dazzling side. I am under no illusion that this kind of finish will put some people off, and for others, it’ll be extremely tempting. The main thing to say is that while yes, in the price, there’s a degree of your money that has been spent on embellishing the uke, that underneath all the bells and baubles is a sound, well-made and lovely sounding ukulele.

This Enya concert ukulele is made from all solid flamed maple. The ‘flaming’ is a pattern that naturally occurs in the wood, as opposed to anything to do with actual flame… but whatever the reason, it’s very nice to look at. That can be seen under a blue green stain and gloss finish. There’s also padauk and ebony binding / purfling and inlaid pearlescent material around the body. And that’s before mentioning the inlaid tree of life style floral motif running the length of the fingerboard.

The Enya EUC-Flower-Sea concert ukulele is fitted with Enya’s own fluorocarbon strings. Strangely, the tenor equivalent has nylon strings and I have to say, I prefer the sound of this one. The fluorocarbon gives a nice ring, and opens up the sound, which is smooth and rich, but ‘peppy’ on account of the power in the trebles fluorocarbon gives. If people order the tenor, I try and persuade people that I should fit fluorocarbon strings for them as I think they suit these instruments much more - so it’s good I don’t have to do that here!

The uke comes with nice, smooth-turning gold closed geared tuners with amber coloured buttons, which are pretty vivid to look at… but if you’ve got this far then I don’t suppose you’re someone who is overly concerned about a potenial new purchase standing out from the crowd! This concert ukulele has a 35mm nut width, with a satin neck (as opposed to the gloss on the rest of the instrument), and is equipped with a nice gig bag too.
