This is a very pretty looking, nice sounding concert ukulele, the Kai KCI-20. The laminate is pacific walnut, which is attractive, and it plays really well and sounds lively and clear to. I've sort of blurted out all the good features at once there, not quite knowing which of them to start with!

The Kai KCI-20 concert ukulele is nicely made, with a neat and tidy build. It features a side sound port, which delivers a bit more of the lively volume directly to the player. Not an essential, but it's not a bad thing at all (i.e. you'd still here it if it wasn't there!) Aside from the nicely shaped headstock, there's not a lot of other decoration, but the wood choice on this satin finished instrument is pretty enough to compensate.

Kai is a relatively new brand, but one that has really set a great standard for affordable quality - with the key points of how it plays and how it sounds prioritised over looks (not that it's not a looker). It is a great choice for someone starting out or upgrading from a really basic uke, as it's slick and easy to play. And there's a real clarity of tone and nice sustain too.

Are there any drawbacks? Well, at this price you can't have everything, and this series doesn't include a gig bag, and the buttons on the geared tuners are a little on the large size. But this is just deliberate nit-picking so that not everything in this description was glowing! Ultimately, it's a fantastic value instrument, that sounds as good as something more expensive.
