Big full, zippy 8-string tone, plain but smart looks, decent specification, great value. Thirteen words to describe this excellent tenor 8-string, the Baton Rouge V2-T8.

The body is all laminate mahogany, but it looks decent with a nice varied grain and a little dazzle given by the laser-etched soundhole decoration that puts the sun in V2-T8 Sun.

With cheaper ukes like this, it is sometimes possible to save a few pounds here and there if you shop around BUT, I can guarantee that they’ll be personally inspected and set up before they leave World of Ukes. Surely worth it for the peace of mind this brings. Sometimes an 8-string can sound a little bit sharp and jangly, but this one, with a nicely arched back, achieves a bit more depth than average - keeping the sweet highs from the Aquila strings, with a balancing warmth.

The key thing here is value. If you fancy a dabble in the world of 8-strings (which is well worth your time), this model gives you the opportunity to do so at a level of investment that won’t cripple your wallet, while still being a nice instrument in its own right.
