UKE Magazine

UKE Magazine Issue 17 - March 2019

from £4.90

The seventeenth edition of UKE Magazine features Astraluna, the Yorkshire-based singer, songwriter and ukulele performer. We talk to her about her modern take on uke music and how she makes her songs come together. Further away from home we talk to New Zealand band The Nukes, as they celebrate a decade of playing music together.

In a long overdue feature, Andy Eastwood looks at the enduring popularity of George Formby, while the Ukulele Ambassador meets the Ukuleleboboys, the acrobatic Belgian brothers who (naturally) spice up their on-stage performances dressed as Mexicans! We take a trip to Finland’s Tropical Winter Ukulele Festival, go busking with Marc Gallagher, tap into the wisdom of Tim Smithies and discover how a major festival comes together with GNUF director, Mary Agnes Krell.

On the gear front, world record holding uke player Robin Evens esq. talks about why he loves his uke, US artist Marlowe shares her best bits of kit and we take another look at Lanikai, as they try and re-establish themselves in the UK with an exciting new range. All of this and a host of other features, new and regular items.

Independently produced, and beautifully designed, this 60 page publication is the UK’s magazine for ukulele players, with a focus on the British scene, but an outlook that takes in the best of ukulele from around the world.
